Hi - my husband is extremely healthy , does not smoke and drink, on a plant diet with zero fat - still had artery blockage. I was extremely scared with the recent young fit people like epigamia founder having heart attacks. Will get this Apob test done and get back to you whether it helped. thanks Samarth for taking this article out.

Hi Samarth, Cardiac arrest is not caused by blocked artery. As mentioned in article also Cardiac arrest is electrical activity fault. ApOb and CAC are good tests to predict risk for blockage in arteries which is risk factor for ASCVD not Cardiac arrest. While ApOB test s fine CAC test is not very effective because calcification of deposits in arteries is advanced stage. My suggestion will be to calculate atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) is a blood test that measures the ratio of triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). I am currently researching to developing a tool for common person to calculate heart disease risk (mainly ASCVD) and I have included APOB and AIP but not CAC for the reason shared above. Thanks

Thanks Samarth, this is super helpful!

While ApoB tests are now fairly easily accessible, I've been struggling to find a place that provides the CAC score. Possible to share links of diagnostic centres (in Mumbai) that have this offering?

Processed and animal-derived foods increase the risk of heart disease significantly.

Thanks for Sunday gyaan !! I just saw a statistic that Indians spend approximately 100 cr on diagnostics every year. Having this info to the public can help immensely on which tests to get done instead of doing generic tests without any knowledge.

Such a densely wisdom packed article. Thank you Samarth.

The healthcare system is structured to cure, not prevent. I remember reading a book by Atul Gawande, it was Being Mortal if I remember correctly and there I learnt that most medical curriculums around the world don't even have a single nutrition course.

Also the cultural issues in India. I know when I'm going to ask my family for the ApoB test, they're going to say why have a test when nothing's wrong.

Thank you. Have a great day!
