Thank you for bringing this out. While women must take help, I think the doctors should also be equipped to give it. I suffer from mood swings and irritability so went to my gynae. She advised me to try meditation, saying, this will pass, implying I should grin and bear it. She then proceeded to prescribe some very expensive hormonal tests to be conducted at her clinic, and after the tests came out told me what i already knew - I am menopausal.
Very good point. You are 100% correct. Unfortunetly, the healthcare system has not been equipped for these health needs of women. We need both an education as well as a mindset change. So women are given their care options transpertantly to make an informed choice. At Cranberry, we are trying to contribute to this in our little way. Sorry that you had this experience. The system will become better with you sharing it.
It is good to see women's health beyond reproduction being discussed so objectively. It is the need of the hour, definitely.
The doctors and practitioners need to update themselves with the changing scenario and also the new researches coming out. For example, HRT was villified in early 2000s because of a study which on hindsight has been acknowledged as having been rushed to draw flawed conclusions. We need better dissemination of correct information and prompt adoption of treatments and management protocols by medical professionals.
No more dismissing of women's health issues as just another "ladies problem" that one has to live with till one dies!
Great point on - prompt adoption of treatments and management protocols - this is something we definetly want to enable in the ecosystem. There is a big gap in what emerging science knows and what choices women are offered. Let's close it!

Thanks, Shalini. Objective discussion is spot on!
